Witte imwitte1@verizon.net August 22, 2006, 1:19 pm Daily Local News, July 28, 1886 The “Daily Local News reported on July 28, 1886- ELIZABETH GRAY- Among the death notices we publish today was that of Elizabeth Gray, who died on Tuesday morning at the residence of her brother-in-law, Richard Darlington, Sr., in West Marlborough township. Deceased was in her 94th year, and had enjoyed good health up to a short time before her death. She fell on Saturday last and broke the cap of one of her knees. Her nephew, Smedley Darlington, West Chester, visited her on Wednesday. It was thought then that she could not recover, but it was supposed she would live very much longer than she did. As evidence of her good memory, Mr. Darlington related that she at once greeted him upon his entering the house with the remark, “The last time thee was to see me was on the 7th of 10th month last year.” She was a member of Friend’s Meeting and was universally esteemed by her friends as an estimable Christian lady. Her maiden name was Smedley. She was born in Willistown township, where she lived until at about the age of 40 she was married to John Gray and removed to Londongrove township, where she resided until the death of her husband, 30 years after. Since that time she has made her home with her brother-in-law. She was one of the most constant readers of the News, which she appeared to prize highly, and to the time of her death never failed to peruse its columns daily.” This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/ File size: 1.9 Kb
