Village Record, January 22, 1861
In West Chester, on the 8th inst., Moses Hepburn, aged 51 years. The deceased 
was born in bondage, and liberated by his paternal parents and educated by him 
in West Chester, and returned to Virginia- here he was left a bequest of 
several thousand dollars by his father.  He returned to West Chester in 1853, 
and was the possessor of a number of dwelling houses and a handsome garden. He 
was well read in all the affairs of the country, and exceedingly intelligent, 
and modest withal.  In him was united the blood of the African and Anglo-Saxon.

Chester County Times, January 12, 1861
HEPBURN-On Tuesday, 8th inst., after a long illness, Moses Hepburn, aged 52 
years.  The deceased will be buried on the 1st day next, at Longwood.  Funeral 
to leave the house at 10 o’clock.
