All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ************************************************ Daily Local West Chester Pennsylvania October 12 1908 J Jefferis Ingram In his thirtieth year J Jefferis Ingram baggagemaster on the train of Conductor Joseph J Hughes died last night in the Chester County Hospital after an operation from stomach trouble. Mr Ingram had been running for years on the Main Line of the Pennsylvania Railroad and the West Chester branch, and was well known to [patrons and railroad men. Saturday he and Mrs. Ingram arranged to go to Philadelphia to see the Knights Templar parade, which closed the ceremonies of founders' Week, and he went home early to prepare for the trip, but a relative who was to take care of their child during the absence of the parents had not arrived and on this account the visit to Philadelphia was postponed. After tea Mr Ingram took the little one upstairs and while there he fell screaming with pain across the bed. Suffering intensely he was taken to the hospital and there an operation was performed yesterday morning about eleven o'clock. Ulceration of the stomach and intestines was found to have progressed far and he must have suffered much without complaint in recent weeks or months. After the operation he gradually grew weaker until 11:30 o'clock at night, when he died. Mr Ingram was a young man of fine disposition and good habits and was universally liked. He belonged to West Chester Lodge No 322 F & A M West Chester Lodge No 42 I O O F, West Chest Pioneer Corps No 1 West Chester Fire Company No 1 and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. His wife who survives him was Miss Frances Faddis daughter of the late George J Faddis of East Fallowfield. She is a graduate of the West Chester State Normal School, class of 1901 and formerly was a popular teacher in the High Street Public School. Their son Samuel William Ingram is sixteen months old. Mr Ingram leaves three sisters and a brother Mrs. George Hazzard, Elsie, Martha and William Ingram. Mr Ingram was a son of William A S Ingram of this borough. His mother died some years ago. Ingram- In West Chester on October 11th 1908 J Jefferis Ingram in the 30th year of his age. Relatives and friends of the family an all organizations of which he was a member are invited to attend the funeral without further notice from his late residence 217 North Adams Street on Wednesday October 14th. Meet at the house at 2 o'clock. Interment at Oaklands Cemetery. Remains can be view on Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock. Daily Local West Chester Pennsylvania October 13 1908 Resolutions of Regret At a meeting of the West Chester Pioneer Corps No 1 held last evening the following resolutions were unanimously adopted; Whereas the arrow of death has again pierced our ranks and claimed for its victim our late beloved member J Jefferis Ingram who died at the Chester county Hospital on Sunday evening October 11th, 1908 and Whereas during all the term of Mr Ingram's membership in this organization his conduct and deportment was that of a gentleman who won the friendship and esteem of all his associates and fellow members therefore be it. Resolved that the members of our organization extend to the widow and child of our deceased brother their profound sympathy in the hour of their sorrow and affliction and that we, manifest our love and regard for the memory of our love and regard for the memory of our dead member by draping our charter with the customary emblems of mourning and that a copy of those resolutions be sent to the family of the deceased and also published in the daily Local News. James H Varnum C W Manley W T Hannum W T Lewis J M Hampton J W Keech Ed S Turner Committee Daily Local West Chester Pennsylvania October 14 1908 Funerals The funeral of the late J Jefferis Ingram of West Chester took place this afternoon at 2 o'clock from his late residence No 217 North Adams Street and was largely attended by relatives friends and member of different organizations to which the deceased had belonged. There was a profusion of floral tributes. The remains reposed in a handsome casket the features being quite natural. The services were conducted by Rev P B Moyer of Manayunk formerly pastor of Hephzibah Baptist Church, and the minister who a few short years since united the deceased in matrimony with his now bereaved wife. He was assisted by Rev Arthur H Simpson of the First Baptist Church of West Chester. The services were very impressive. Miss Josie Crater Miss Bessie Crater and Mrs. Charles W Gibson sang beautifully and touchingly "Abide with Me" and "Some Time We'll Understand." The interment took place at Oaklands. The funeral was in charge of West Chester Lodge, No 322 F & A M and at the grave the rite of the fraternity also that of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen were performed, Peter Woods a member of the latter organization sang the closing hymn. The pallbearers were Joseph Hughes Harry Hogg William Munshower Joseph N Hampton J Walter Keech and Ed S Turner representing the different Orders of which the deceased was a much esteemed member. Last evening the remains were viewed by members of the West Chester Fire Company, West Chester Lodge No 42 I O O F and others.
