James of Coventryville, Chester County, died on Saturday afternoon, at the age of 71 years and 28 days. He had been ailing for the past eleven years, being a sufferer with asthma. Deceased was one of the oldest millers in this section of the state. He was born in Marsh. In 1859 he began milling, working for Davis and Haine. In 1864 he moved to Warwick, where he entered a mill owned by his father, B. F. James, and his uncle, George R. Grimley. In 1872 he engaged in business for himself at Coventryville, and until three weeks ago, when he was compelled to take his bed, continued to conduct the business through his son, Charles James, Jr. He was early married and is survived by six children, as follows: Annie, wife of John Quarry, of Pottstown; William, of Pottstown; Sarah Sheeler, widow of William Sheeler, deceased, of Coventryville; Laura L., widow of William E. Hartline, of Pottstown; Charles, of Coventryville; and Alice, wife of Nathan Garner of Brownback's Church. A sister and two brothers also survive: Mrs. Mary E. Lewis, of Reading; George P. James, of Warwick, Chester county, and William James of Marsh. The grandchildren also survive. Deceased was a member of Neversink Lodge. No. 514 I.O.O.F. of Birdsboro, and was the oldest Past Grand of the lodge, he having joined it on September 9, 1858. Funeral on Wednesday at 11 a.m. and interment at Pottstown Cemetery.
