S. Landis, one of Coatesville's oldest business men and most worthy citizens, died this morning in the 74th year of his age. He leaves a widow, three sons and a daughter, the children being W.J. Landis, H. S. Landis, Anna, wife of Willis R. Palmer, Doe Run and Ralph E. Landis. Mr. Landis had for years been one of the foremost citizens of the town, where he took an active part in borough affairs, having held a number of positions at times in past years. He had resided for many years at the corner of Second avenue and Chestnut street. For many years he had conducted the business of a funeral director in the town, in which is is succeeded by his son, William. He had been a prominent member of the Washington Fire Company, uniting with it at its organization and took an active interest in matters for the welfare of the town. He was also a member of prominent lodges and was a leader among the members of the Funeral Directors Association of the State, being the second member of that organization to pass to his reward in Coatesvillle within one month.
