Loomis, died last evening at his home in Nantmeal Village, Chester County. Deceased had resided in the above named village ever since 1840. His family for two generations preceding him had lived in that neighborhood. His mother was a sister of Judge Nimrod Strickland. His wife, Rebecca, whose maiden name was Rebecca Davis, died in March 1871. She bore him eight children, of whom two are dead. The second of their sons, and their third child is Davis K. Loomis, the present Prothonotary. The deceased had a severe attack of pneumonia several weeks ago from which he had so far recovered as to be about. On Thursday evening he was at the store in the village and was suddenly stricken with apoplexy. He was taken home but only lived about two hours, breathing his last about 11 o'clock. Deceased was a blacksmith by occupation and up to 1871 he worked at the trade. He was in early life a Whig and afterwards a Republican. He took an interest in political affairs but never held office. He was a citizen well esteemed among his neighbors. He was not a member of any religious denomination but adhered to the Methodist Episcopal Church and was a regular attendant upon the services of that denomination in Nantmeal Village. The deceased was in his sixty-sixth year. The funeral will take place upon Tuesday next, and his remains will be laid to rest in the M. E. graveyard at Nantmeal Village. Loomis – In Nantmeal Village, on February 28th, 1884 of apoplexy, John Loomis in the 66th year of his age. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral from his late residence, on Tuesday, March 4th, at 11 o'clock. Interment at the Nantmeal Village Cemetery.
