Byers, died suddenly yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. He was aged 53. Mr. Lumis, who served as postmaster at Uwchland the past eight years, died while seated on the front porch of his home. He was stricken on the front porch of his home. He was stricken while talking with members of his family, who called Dr. Frank Wells, of West Chester. He died while restoratives were being administered. Lumis, postmaster at Uwchland, prominent fraternalist and feed merchant Mr. Lumis was a trustee at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, near Chester Springs. Had he lived he would have attended sessions this week of the Eastern Pennsylvania Synod, at Lititz, as a lay delegate of the nearby church. He was born in West Vincent Township, a son of the late Robert Ralston and Anna Belle (nee Mosteller) Lumis. During his early years Mr. Lumis conducted a farm in West Vincent Township later conducting the feed and coal business at Byers. A man of sterling character, Mr. Lumis was widely known throughout the Pickering Valley. He was a past Worshipful Master of Mount Pickering Lodge, F. and A. M., and at the time of his death served as secretary. He was also affiliated with West Chester Forest, Tall Cedar's of Lebanon; Phoenix Chapter, 198 Royal Arch Masons; Phoenixville Chapter, Knights Templar and the Odd Fellow fraternity. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Margaret (nee Dewees) there is one son, George D., a student at West Chester High School and a sister, E. Edna Lumis of West Chester. Funeral services will take place Wednesday at 2:00 o'clock from his late residence at Byers, followed by interment in St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery.
