William K. Matthewson, aged 55 years, died at his home, 21 Columbia Avenue, 
Sunday night, after an illness covering several months.  Mr. Matthewson was 
elected to Council in 1911 on a fusion ticket, serving one full term, and was 
a faithful and painstaking public official.  I addition to being well known 
throughout the county in politics, Mr. Matthewson was a prominent lodgeman, 
being identified with Goddard Lodge, F&AM, the Eastern Star and Knights of 
Malta.

Born on a farm near Downingtown 55 years ago, Mr. Matthewson has been a 
resident of this city for the past twenty years. He was an agent of the 
Metropolitan Insurance Company for several years, resigning some years ago to 
conduct a store at First Avenue and Lincoln Highway.

Surviving are his wife, five children, William, Miss Sara, Mrs. Jack Wright, 
Miss Nance and Miss Florence, all of this city; two brothers, Joseph, residing 
near Downingtown and George, of Reading, and a sister, Mrs. Annie Hopworth, 
Afton, Wyoming.

His funeral, which was largely attended, took place Thursday.  Religious 
services were conducted at his lat home at 1 o’clock.  Interment was made at 
Northwood Cemetery, Downingtown.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral from his 
late residence, 32 South 8th Avenue, on Thursday. April 8.  Meet at the house 
at 1 o’clock p.m.  Interment at Northwood Cemetery.
