D. McCord, aged 55 years, well known educator and former member of the State Legislature, died Monday, at his residence in Elverson, of a complication of ailments He had been ill since February, but was bedfast only three weeks. In addition to his extensive educational work, Mr. McCord was actively interested in politics for many years, being a staunch supporter of Republican principles. Twice he was elected to the Pennsylvania Legislature- in 1907 and 1908, and again in 1909 and 1910. For 32 years he taught various schools in Chester County. He was principal of the East and West Nantmeal High School and was also principal of the Soldiers’ and Orphans’ Home, at Chester Springs. He was the son of the late Heber and Sarah, nee Hantshire, McCord, and lived his entire life in the vicinity of Elverson. Sidney T. McCord, a brother of the deceased, is the present controller of the city of Camden, N.J. He is survived by his widow who was Estella Jones, and a daughter, Margaret. The funeral was held this afternoon (Thursday) from the late home and were in charge of Rev. Walter E. Tibbets, pastor of the East Nantmeal Baptist Church. Masonic funeral rites at the grave were in charge of Mt. Pickering Lodge, F. and A.M., of Byers.
