Nelson, in the 15th year of her age. Thus, in the short space of two weeks, has father and mother been robbed, by insatiate Death, of two daughters, their eldest and youngest. The first that fell was a child, who but a short time before exhibited all the marks of health and vigor of constitution, and her parents looked upon her with pride and affection, and indulged in the pleasing hope that she would live to bless and comfort them in their decline of life; - but neither health nor the innocence of childhood was sufficient to shield her from the cold and fatal embrace of the gaunt spectre who traverses the land, and claims creation as his prey. The second daughter was just entering the arena of useful and active life- she stood upon the threshold of womanhood- the staff, the pride, the joy of her parents- and just as she was about to enter, the fatal dart was hurled, and she followed her sister to the cold and narrow house “appointed for all the living.” She was an amiable and interesting girl, and the void which her decease has left in her parent’ hearts, is unquestionably great- but still the consolation is ample, that she died full of confidence in the atonement of her saviour, and in the firm belief that she was going to join her sister in Heaven, and wear a crown of glory “prepared for (her) from the beginning.” Village Record, April 27, 1831 On the 19th inst. ELIZABETH M. NELSON, daughter of William and Mary Ann Nelson, in the 15th year of her age, after an illness of ten days- under which she was supported with much resignation and patience. Ere her departure, she manifested a happy assurance she was about to enter a peaceful and joyous eternity, to the great consolation of her parents, who have had to perform the mournful task of following to the grave, in less than two weeks, two of three children. Yes, mother of the dying one, The beautiful must go; The pallid cheek and fading eye, And trembling lip of snow, Are signets from the hand of death, When unseen angels come, To bear the young and beautiful To their own happy home. Then look thy last, fond mother, For the earth shall be above, And curtain up that sleeping one, The first born of thy love. But let thy burning thoughts go forth- And pray that thou mays’t meet The sinless one, where worlds shall bow, Before the judgment seat; And pray, that when the wing of death Is shadow’d on thy brow, Thy soul may be beside the one, That sleepeth near thee now. – Extract Additional Comments: Elizabeth Nelson and other Nelsons are listed at Downingtown Friends Meeting Cemetery.
