W. Rea, aged 56 years. Relatives and friends, St. Paul’s Lodge, No. 481, F&AM, Covenant Lodge, No. 114, I.O.O.F., and Master Carpenter’s Association are respectfully invited to attend the funeral services, at his late residence, No. 818 Perkiomen Street, Philadelphia, this (Thursday) evening, 8th inst., at 8 ‘clock Interment at Hopewell Cemetery, Chester County, Friday morning. Train leaves Broad Street Station at 7 o’clock. The funeral of William W. Rea, of Philadelphia, the senior member of the firm of Wm W. .Rea & son, took place at the Hopewell M.E. Cemetery, Chester County, on Friday, September 9. Services at the house were conducted by Rev. Samuel W. Kurtz, of Philadelphia, and at the grave by St. Paul’s Lodge, 481, F & AM. The pall bearers were the members of the order. Mr. Rea was born in Chester County in 1832 and moved to Philadelphia in 1863, where he soon after engaged in business as contractor and builder, in which he had been very successful. Among the recent operations were the Dun Cigar Manufacturing Company Building, Broad and Race, and the Jewish Temple, Broad and Columbia Avenue, which was dedicated on Friday, the day of his funeral, which is considered the finest church structure in Philadelphia; and had the Mantua Presbyterian Church, in West Philadelphia, in progress. He leaves a son of which will continue the business. Additional Comments: The Harrison C. Rea Vault is pictured on the Tombstone Page, Hopewell Methodist Cemetery: Daily Local News, July 1, 1922 The will of Harrison C. Rea, admitted to probate yesterday, in Philadelphia, directs $8,000 be given to the Hopewell Cemetery, East Brandywine, for a memorial gateway and vault. Mr. Rea, a building contractor, died June, 22, at 100 E. Sedgwick St., Philadelphia, leaving an estate worth over $220,000. The principal legatees are his widow, Harriett E. Rea, and their children, nephews and nieces. Hopewell Church is one of the most remarkable in this county, being a magnificent grey stone structure erected in the open country, with nothing near it except the cemetery, a district school and a few dwellings, then the farms. It is well attended and supported, and here the recent centenary celebration was held in Memory of T. Buchanan Read, who was born a mile away at Corner Ketch or Washington Square. Daily Local News, July 6, 1922 The generous bequest of the late Harrison Rea is much appreciated by Hopewell Church people. Mr. Rea willed the sum of $8,000 to be used in building a vault and a gateway to the cemetery. The vault will meet a long felt need and the gateway at the entrance will be an improvement to the cemetery.
