Deceased had been ill for some months past with a pulmonary disease, but had been much better recently, and was able on Friday to ride out in a carriage. On the morning of his death, Mrs. Ruth arose early to go to market, and left her husband in the sitting room, while a niece was in a room adjoining, and a son of feeble mind was laying in the yard. During he absence the niece had occasion to go to the back part of the house, and was horrified to find her uncle lying with his neck on the edge of a trough at the pump, and blood flowing from his mouth in great quantities. The boy stated that his father had fallen with a spittoon in his hand. The young lady called in the neighbors, who removed him to his house, but found that life was extinct. From the statements of the boy and the circumstances surrounding the case, it was evident that deceased had been attacked with hemorrhage of the lungs and finding that the spittoon he was using would hot hold the blood that was flowing from him so rapidly, had picked it up and carried it outside the building, where he became so weak from the loss of blood that he probably fainted and fell in the position we have described. The anguish of his wife on her return to find hat her partner had died during her absence beggars description. Deceased was 57 years of age, had lived in Phoenixville about 25 years, was a painter by trade, and was highly esteemed by the entire community in which he resided.
