Mrs. Sands lived with a daughter, Miss Rose. She arose in the morning in the enjoyment of excellent health, but shortly before noon was stricken down with palsy, and in the evening of the same day, peacefully breathed her last. She was 75 years of age and the mother of thirteen children, twelve of whom survive her four boys and eight girls. They are: Washington, farmer, of Robeson Township; Rev. John G., pastor of the Easton Evangelical Church; James of this borough; David of Reading; Mrs. Emily Keen and Mrs. Elizabeth Robinson, widows, living at St. Mary’s; Mrs. Hannah Hartenstine, of Chester County; Mrs. Mary Rhoads and Mrs. Kate Rhoads of Birdsboro; Mrs. Clara Caskey, of Philadelphia, and Mrs. Louisa Painter, of Warwick township, Chester County and Rose who lived at home. One child, a girl, died when quite young. Deceased was a daughter of David Hoffman, a Methodist local preacher, for many years residing in Geigertown, Berks County. Deceased was an earnest, faithful Christian, and for many years exerted an influence for good. Like a hock of ripened, golden grain, she has been garnered to the heavenly home above. The funeral will take place Wednesday, the 7th inst., at 10 o’clock. Interment at St. Mary’s Episcopal burying ground.
