Sands, for the past twenty years a foreman at the Penn Hardware Works and one of the most faithful employes (sic) of the firm, died Friday of uraemic (sic) poisoning at the Homeopathic Hospital, Reading, after a brief illness, aged 71 years. Mr. Sands became ill only a few days ago. He was born at Geiger’s Mills. His early education was received in the country schools, after which he taught several years. He went to Reading in 1856, at which time he secured a position at the old Reading Shops at Seventh and Chestnut Streets. During the Civil War he served three moths in Company F, 42 Regiment, Pennsylvania Reserves. In 1867 he entered the employ of the hardware company. His faithful services won for him a high place in the eyes of the officers. He was advanced until twenty years ago, when he became a! foreman, which position he occupied until his death. Deceased is survived by one son, J.P. Sands, of Reading. Two grandchildren and these brothers and sisters also survive: Rev. John G. Sands, Harrisburg; Washington Sands, Elverson, Chester County; James Sands, Pottstown; Mrs. Elizabeth Robinson, Warwick, Chester County; Mary, widow of Caleb Rhoads, Birdsboro; Louise, widow of J.F. Painter, Reading; Kate, wife of Enoch Rhoads, Birdsboro; Hannah, wife of Thomas Hartenstine, East Nantmeal, Chester County; Clara, wife of Robert E.
