He had been in poor health for several months, having been confined to his bed for several weeks, but for some time had been able to be down stairs, and it was while sitting in his chair that he suddenly expired. He was in his eighty-third year and was the oldest resident of this place. He was a member of the Methodist Church, of this place, and had been for many years a loved and honored member of the church. His funeral will take place on Saturday morning at 11 o’clock, from the residence of H. Bernard Fox, with whom he had made his home since the death of his wife, several yeas ago. Several sisters and brothers are left to mourn his loss. Ibid, date not noted, 1914 A large concourse of friends and relatives gathered to pay the last tribute of respect to Washington Sands, whose funeral took place on Saturday last from the residence of H. Bernard Fox. Services were conducted by Rev. Lewis A. Dyer, pastor of the M.E. Church, of which Mr. Sands had been a member for a number of years, also Rev. T.N. Hyde, of Malvern, and Rev. W.H. Zweizig, former pastors of the church. Interment in the Springfield Cemetery. The pall bearers were William Hawk, William Wilson, Joseph Whitman, Henry Buchanan, Harry Finger and Joseph Mauger. Additional Comments: Note: This is a clipping of a 1914 Newspaper. References to 'town'or 'this place' could have been under a heading of a borough or community (IE: ELVERSON EVENTS), hence 'this place', or 'this town' cannot be confirmed. Clues are the location of H. Bernard Fox, or the pastorship of the three clergy mentioned. His wife is buried at Springfield M.E. Cemetery, another clue to the location.
