A Prominent Minister of the Orthodox Society of Friends. Joseph Scattergood, a prominent minister of the Society of Friends, died at his home in West Chester, at about 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, at the age of fifty years. He was taken ill on Monday last with influenza which rapidly developed into pneumonia and resulted in his death. Mr. Scattergood was a native of Philadelphia and was educated in the Westtown Friends' boarding school, near West Chester. For many years he was a prosperous farmer and was afterwards identified with the hardware business there. He was treasurer of the executive board of the Westtown Friends' boarding school and an active member of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, being on the visiting committee at the time of his death.
