Daily Local News, March 17, 1883 Died- We recently gave an account of the illness of Joseph Simmers, living in West Vincent township, this county, caused by gangreen produced by having his feet frozen. One of his legs was amputated a few days ago, but this proved to no avail. The disease had attacked his whole system and it was soon found there was no hope for him, and on Thursday he died. Daily Local News, March 20, 1883 Joseph Simmers, one of West Vincent's oldest citizens, was buried on Monday. In early fall, gangrene made its appearance in one of his feet, and seemed to the only hope was to amputate the limb below the knee. The operation was performed by Dr.s Morris Fussel and Prizer, of Lionville. About two weeks after the amputation was performed, his sufferings became int4ense and on Friday evening last death came to his relief. His age was seventy years and nine days.
