He had been a patient at the hospital for a week but had not been in the best of health for some years. He celebrated his eighty-fifth birthday on April 5 last. Mr. Smith, a son of the late Parvin and Jane Brinton Smith, was born in Parkesburg, where he lived al his life, except that for the past twenty-one years he had spent his winters in St. Petersburg, Fla. During all his life he was engaged in the real estate business and was active in business up until about ten days before his death. Mr. Smith was a life long member of the Society of Friends and attended the meeting in Coatesville. He was also a member of the Parkesburg Chamber of Commerce and was always greatly interested in civic and community affairs. He came of a family that has en prominently identified with the town for several generations. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Lizzie Terwilleger Smith, two sons and two daughters, Francis W., of Parkesburg; Walter P, of Parkesburg; Dorothy, wife of Leo Lutz of Glassboro, N.J.; and Elizabeth, wife of Edward Prickett, of Sewell, N.J.; two sisters and a brother, Miss Gulielma Smith, William Smith and Dr. May Smith, all of Parkesburg, and eight grandchildren. The funeral will take place from the Wilde Funeral Home in Parkesburg, on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment will be in Upper Octorara Cemetery.
