Hepburn, died last night at the Chester County Hospital, where she was under treatment for an attack of peritonitis. She leaves three sisters and her mother to mourn her death. Mrs. Smothers was long identified in church work among her colored neighbors and friends. Ibid: SMOTHERS- On the 7th inst., Ella B. Smothers. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from her late residence, 300 E. Miner Street, on Tuesday, the 11th inst. Services at 1 o’clock. Interment at Longwood Cemetery. Daily Local News, September 12, 1917 The funeral of Mrs. Ella Smothers, of this place, took place yesterday afternoon from her late home, East Miner Street, and was largely attended by relatives and friends, being one of the largest in that section recently. The services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Dunlap, assisted by other colored pastors of the borough. The Bethel Church Choir rendered a number of selections and the interment was made at Longwood Cemetery. The trip to the place was made by motor cars.
