Elva G. Speakman When we see an aged man carried to his tomb after a life complete with good works we aptly say:"His career has ended and he has filled the position well for which he was created" To our finite minds his life has been what it should be. But when our young friends are taken from us by death, it is difficult for us to reconcile ourselve to it: it is hard to realize that " whom the God`s love die early" and that such an escape many living deaths, for we think that the safeguards we will throw about them will protect tehm from harm. But "Gods ways are not our ways" and in his providence he has taken from our midst our beloved friend Elva G. Speakman. To her schoolmates she wa a gentle companion, always willing to give a kind word or to hinder a a nasty expression. She was a favorite with all. To her teaacher she was ever the same, always diligent and willin to do her best inall tasks. Her influence in school was elevating to its moral tone. Of her many aquaintances outside of school everyone spoke her praise. Until a few weeks agoe she had been in good health, when she was taken down on a bed of sickness from which she removed only buy still cold hand of death.Patient through her four weeks of suffering, she displayed the same sweet disposiotn tht characterized her entire life, many time assuring her never tiring Mother that "if she had not the best mamma in the world she would not get well." Althought the bitter pang of parting is over, and her pains and troubles past "ere sin could blight or sorrow fade" yet among her many friend there will be felt the loss of a friend true and tried, and the vancant chair by the hearth stone at home will be a sorrowful reminder of the past when the family circle meets.
