JOSEPH TANNER - Born February 27, 1827 in Chester County, Pennsylvania. To 1870* he lived in Virginia and Illinois. In 1857 he was married to Susan Gosney and God blessed the union with eleven (11) children, eight (8) living at the time of his death. He served three (3) years in the 77th Illinois, during the Civil War and was wounded. His wife died February 12, 1910, after which he made his home with his two daughters. He passed away September 19, 1921. Survivors - 5 sons, 3 daughters, 30 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren *It appears the family moved from Chester Co. ca 1846-47 to what is now WV. Columbus, Lyon Co., KS -- Columbus Daily Advocate, September 21, 1921, pg1 c6 BURIAL HERE. The remains of Joseph Tanner who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Lambert, at their home in Neosho Falls (sic actually Neosho Rapids), will arrive here this evening at 7:30. The funeral services will probably be held tomorrow afternoon, at the old home place near Turck. Mr. Tanner was a pioneer in this county. Columbus, Lyon County, KS -- Columbus Daily Advocate, September 22, 1921 pg 1 c4 Tanner Funeral Friday Funeral services for Joseph Tanner, who died a few days ago at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Lambert in Neosho Falls (sic should be Neosho Rapids), Kansas, will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the old Tanner home near Turck. The funeral services were originally planned for this afternoon, but were changed in order to give relatives from Colorado time to get here.
