Terwilliger, 68 years of age, mother of Mrs. James A. Smith, was fund dead on the Pennsylvania Railroad tracks under the west bridge in Parkesburg early this morning. A conductor who made the discovery before seven o'clock gave notice and at once the authorities took charge of the case, preparatory to an investigation. For what seemed a long time in the gray of the dawn the body could not be identified, but finally some one asked if it could be Mrs. Terwilliger, of Second avenue, and a close scrutiny proved this to be the person. Mrs. Terwilliger was well known in town, and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, but of late had been suffering from mental troubles and was for a time in an institution, but was returned to her home, greatly improved. It was Conductor William Mattern who found the body at 5.40 this morning, but not until 8.15 was it identified. As it was well dressed, an no one knew where it came from, the men supposed the woman had fallen from the train or had come from a distant place. Being removed to the freight warehouse of the railroad it could readily be seen by the residents. Deputy Coroner George W. Mullen held an inquest, his jury consisting of W. B. Blocker, Matlack Townsley, Howard Galloway, George Gayly, Jr., William Laughlin and George Heyburn. The verdict was that she had become bewildered while trespassing upon the tracks of the railroad and the company was exonerated from all blame. She was the widow of Isaac H. Terwilliger and had been for fifteen years a resident of Parkesburg. Two children survive her: Edward Terwilliger, of Sandford, Fla., and Lydia A., wife of James A. Smith, of Parkesburg.
