He had been ill since 1929 when he suffered a stroke. Thorp served on term as burgess of the county seat and several terms as councilman. He was active in Republican political circles and was also interested in all civic activities. For many years he engaged in the undertaking business, but retired about five years ago. He was married twice and is survived by his second wife Mrs. Lydia D. Thorp and the following children by the first marriage: Margaret, wife of William Killifer, former manager of the St. Louis American League baseball team, Bertha, widow of the late George Stallings, former big league baseball manager, and Mabel, wife of John Groff, West Chester. Three brothers and a sister also survive. They are: Leonard, Wilmington, Harry, Philadelphia, Samuel, Wilmington and Mrs. May Cole. The funeral will take place Friday afternoon with interment at Oaklands Cemetery.
