Varnes, a well known retired farmer, died yesterday morning at his home in Parkesburg in his 75th year, following an illness of about three weeks, which was critical from the beginning. Mr. Varnes had not been in the best of health for some time previous to his last illness. Born on a farm near Parkesburg, Mr. Varnes had lived in that section all his life. He was a son of the late Peter T. Varnes. For many years he operated a farm on Strasburg Road north of the borough and at the same time conducted a threshing and bailing business. About eleven years ago, her retired from business and moved to Parkesburg where he had resided since. He was one of the organizers of the Old Fiddlers Association of Chester and Lancaster Counties and was an active member of the executive committee. He was also a member of Upper Octorara Church. Surviving him besides his widow, who was Miss Annie Boofter, are four children, May, wife of Roy Connell, Ralph E., Paul L. and Helen L. and one grand-child, Mazzie Connell, all of whom live at home. The funeral will take place from his late residence, 520 Second Avenue, Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment will be made in Upper Octorara Cemetery.
