The deceased has been unconscious since last Monday, and suffered little during his last hours. The deceased had been unwell for some time, but had a serious attack on Memorial Day, 1904, while engaged in the ceremonies of the day. He was treated by specialists, and at time it was thought he would improve, but he finally succumbed to his troubles and passed away last evening, having made an energetic struggle against his disease. The deceased was born in Grosse Bedlingen, Germany, on June 6th, 1850, being, therefore, fifty-five years and one month old. He came to this country in 1871 and obtained employment with the late George Fassnacht. He also worked industriously on the borough street force for some time. On May 14th, 1872, he was married to Rosini Kurth, of Philadelphia and they had nine children, four being deceased. The surviving children are: George Jr., Louise, Fred, William and John, all residents here. The deceased and his family have mostly resided in West Chester, being away from here a short time since his arrival in West Chester. He engaged later in mercantile, manufacturing and farming pursuits, and by great industry and application to business acquired considerable property in East Bradford and West Chester. Deceased was on of the most energetic businessmen of this community. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, in his native country, but attended different churches here. He was a member of different Orders and societies, namely: Fame Fire Company, No. 3; Pocahontas Lodge No. 316, I.O.O.F.; Stella Lodge, No. 131, K of P; West Chester Conclave, No. 61, I.O. of Heptasophs; West Chester Castle, No. 326, K.G.E; Col. Roberts Commandery, M.B.K.G.E., and German Odd Fellows Encampment, of Philadelphia. The deceased was a man of congenial manners and had many warm friends in this community. He has done much to improve the section of town in which he lived, and had a beautiful home. The deceased had one sister resident of Philadelphia, Mrs. M. Sherpf, who still survives her brother. The funeral will take place from his late residence, on Monday, to meet at the house at 2 p.m. Interment at Greenmount Cemetery.
