Wallace, in his 86th year. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral without further notice from his late home, 113 Main St., Parkesburg, Pa., on Wednesday, June 23, at 2 o’clock p.m. Interment at Upper Octoraro Cemetery. --------------------------------- Daily Local News, June 22, 1923 Funeral services were held for the late John P. Wallace at his home, on East Main Street on Wednesday afternoon. Rev. W.P. VanTries, retiring pastor of Parkesburg Presbyterian Church, of which Mr. Wallace was a member and former treasurer, spoke briefly of Mr. Wallace’s interest in the affairs of his church, of his value to the community as a citizen, the unostentatiousness of his good deeds, and his ability as a compiler of local history. A quartet from the church choir, Misses Betty Leachey and Sara Paxson, and Messrs H.C. Miller and Chester E. Miller, sang. “Sun of My Soul,” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.” Bearers were intimate friends: D. A. Sellers, George Mowday, H.C. Miller, Wm R. Latta, and James M. Heston, this place, and D. Hope Scott, Pomeroy. There were no floral tokens. Miss Maria Wallace, a sister and final survivor of Mr. Wallace’s generation, was able to be present. Interment was made in Upper Octoraro Cemetery. Mr. Wallace will is a matter of local and general interest in the county, and under its terms a number of bequests include $10,000 to Parkesburg Presbyterian Church, $10,000 to the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions: $10,000 to the Chester County Hospital at West Chester, $1,000 and his books to the Parkesburg Free Library and $2,000 to his sister, Miss Maria Wallace, was the first bequeath mentioned, also $2,000 to Chester H. Reid for the education of his children; $500 each to his long time tenants, John Townsley and Mrs. Laughhead. The gold watch bequeathed to him by R. Agnew Futhey, first superintendent of Chester County Schools, and Mr. Futhey’s portrait were willed back to Mrs. Sara Futhey Philips, wife of Charles, G. Philips, Atglen, a representative of the Futhey family. The house hold effects are to be sold. The real estate, the house in which Mr. Wallace resided, is provided for under the will of Mrs. Wallace, who died some years ago. Additional Comments: Day of article is possibly not correct.
