About two weeks previous to his death he had grip, and did not regain his accustomed strength, gradually growing weaker until the end. William H. Way was a son of William and Susan Plankinton Way. When he was 10 years old his father bought the farm in New London township, now owned by James H. Way, half-brother of the deceased. He attended the public schools in his neighborhood and later spent two winters at Hopewell Acedemy under the tutelage of Hon. Jesse C.Dickey. After completing his school course, he taught school for a few winters. On fourth month 17,1862, he was united in marriage to Sarah M. Gawthrop. Four children were born to them, three of whom survive; J. Allen Of Oxford; Charles H., of Philadelphia and Amy, a teacher in Swarthmore Prepartory School. Another daughter, Elizabeth H., died about a year ago. After his marriage Mr. Way bought the mill property in New London township, now owned by Franklin Kirk. This he later exchanged with Theodore Kirk for the farm in East Nottingham township, near Pugh and Lyons' mill, which he still owned. Here he resided for a number of years, improving the property greatly. His wife died Tenth month 23, 1886. On Fourth month 1, 1888 Mr. Way retired from the farm, removing to Oxford, where he has since resided. On Sixth monthe 9,1890 Mr. Way married Mary R. Heald of Kennett Square , the well known minister of the Society of Friends, who survives him. The deceased was life long member of the Society of Friends. He was active in establishing the Oxford Meeting which he attended constantly and supported earnestly. In politics Mr. Way was a Whig in early life and had been a Republican since the formation of the party. In every movement for public betterment, whether local, State or National, he took deep interest. An earnest advocate of temperance, he supported the work of the Good Templars` organization. He was a charter member of Oxford Grange. Mr. Way was a man of mild and pleasant demeanor. He was a close reader of current events and few men were better informed. He retained his mental and physical activities well until his last illness and passed away as he lived at peace with all mankind. To his family he leaves the rich hertiage of a stainless name; to the community in general the example of a life righteously spent. The funeral will be held at his late home on market Street on the Sixth day at 10:30.
