Funeral to-morrow (Tuesday) morning at ten o’clock. Interment at Pughtown. Daily Local News, November 23, 1882 A Large Funeral- The funeral of Richard Williams, colored, of East Nantmeal Township, Chester County, took place on Tuesday, the 21st inst., and was very largely attended. The body was interred at the Baptist burying ground, Pughtown, and services were held in the church. Addresses were made by Rev. Wm. Barrows, Rev. David Landis and Rev. Caleb Hughes. A secret order from West Chester, where deceased was a member, attended the funeral in a body, driving from the county seat in carriages. A committee of the Order, carrying beautiful bouquets of flowers, walked in front of the hearse containing the body, from and to the church, a distance of nearly two miles. Deceased was greatly respected by his neighbors, and his funeral was the largest held in that neighborhood for a long time- Pottstown Ledger Daily Local News, January 8, 1883 Memorial Service- Memorial Services in honor of their deceased comrade, Richard Williams, were held on Sunday in Sister’s Hall, Adam Street, by the members of Col. F. Smith Post, G.A.R. Short sermons eulogistic of the deceased were delivered by Revs. Hood and Jones. The Chaplain of the Post, Wells Johnson, also made a few remarks.
