Woodward, 77, retired after serving on the Spring City School Board for 30 years, who resided at 49 North Main St., Spring City, died at 4:30 this morning in the Phoenixville Hospital. Death was caused by a heart ailment. Mr. Woodward had been a patient at the hospital intermittently, but had gone home for Christmas. He had been re-admitted only yesterday. Born in Berks County, he was a son of the late Lewis and Catherine Hart Woodward and resided in Spring City for more than 60 years. He had operated a grocery store at the late address for more than 40 years. His most recent employment was at the Pennhurst State School, from which he retired eight years ago. He was a member of the Spring City First United Church of Christ and served on the Consistory for many years. Mr. Woodward was acting treasurer of Vincent Lodge 762, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Spring City. He also held membership in Washington Camp 191, Patriotic Order Sons of America. He also belonged to Phoenix Encampment 79, IOOF; Spring City Lodge 533, Free and Accepted Masons; Spring City Forest 34, Tall Cedars of Lebanon; Liberty Fire Co., Spring City, and served as a director for the Spring City Building and Loan Co. at the time of his death. Surviving in addition to his widow, Mae B Styer Woodward, are two brothers and a sister: Edward F. Woodward, Joanna Heights, PA, Harry C. Woodward, Chester Springs RD; and Mrs. S. Anna Hohl, Reading. Funeral services will be held at the late residence Wednesday afternoon at 2 with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Spring City RD. Friends may call at the late residence Tuesday night from 7 to 9.
