Scattergood—Byers
One of the prettiest weddings of the season was that of Miss Emma O. Byers,
daughter of Robert Byers, to William S. Scattergood, MD, of Thomas Scattergood,
on March, 7th 1894, at her home in East Bradford. Miss Fannie Byers, sister of
the bride, was maid of honor, while Roland Hopkins of Marshallton, was best man.
The bridesmaids were Hannah Byers, also sister of the bride, and Anna Price, of
West Philadelphia, while Frank Bailey and Josiah B. Fairlamb acted as groomsmen.
The bride was beautifully attired in white silk bengaline, and was given away by
her father. Two pretty little girls, Sara Byers and Mabel Baldwin, dressed as
fairies, acted as flower girls. The ceremony, that of Friends, took place at 12
o'clock noon. After the congratulations and collation, the happy couple left
West Chester on the 4:20 train, amid showers of rice, for a two weeks’ trip
through the South. Among those present were Robert Byers and wife, Thomas
Scattergood, T. Walter Scattergood, Herbert Scattergood, Henry Baldwin and wife,
William Woodward and wife, Stephen D. Byers, Thomas Butler and wife, Paschall
Worth and wife, Samuel Byers and family, Dr. and Mrs. C. E. Woodward, George B.
Mellor and family, George Byers and family, Francis Worth, Mrs. E. J. Stoner and
son, Rev. B. Canfield Jones, W. W. MacElree, Joseph H. Baldwin, Dr. and Mrs.
Hoskins, Edward Savery and wife, William Barton and family, Edgar Barton, from
West Chester and vicinity; John T. Elliott and wife, Lawrence Jefferis and wife,
George Chandler and wife, Stephen Savery and wife, Mrs. Thomas Savery, of
Wilmington, Charles Jefferson and wife, Misses Kate and Fannie Keim, Frank R.
Scattergood, Richard Van Horn, from Philadelphia; Mrs. Edward Hall and daughter,
of Media; Urah Benjamin and wife, Miss Maud Benjamin, of Phoenixville, and many
others.
