All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: David Zimmerman zimmerman409@charter.net April 15, 2005, 5:19 pm Source: Recorder Of Wills Written: April 2, 1842 Recorded: March 28, 1844 Deed Book Volume 5, No. 378 In the name of God Amen I James Jordon of Plum township Allegheny County & State of Pennsylvania – being weak in body but Sound in mind memory and understanding – but being aware of the uncertai =nty of life – am desirous to settle all my worldly affairs whilst I have the strength and capacity so to do – I do therefore make and ordain this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time made – It is my will and desire that soon after my decease that all my Joust debts be paid – out of any money that may be on hands at that time as also the adminis =tring the estate &c – To my beloved wife Margaret I give and bequeath all my chattle property of every description that may be left after paying my Just debts funeral expenses administring my estate &c – and likewise all the rents Issues and profits of my farm on which I reside that may be left after during hir natural life paying taxes repairs &c – ^ To my grandson James Jordon (Son of my Son James) I give and bequeath my farm on which I reside to go to him at the decease of my wife If he Should be twenty one Years of age at that time If not when he arrives at the age of twenty Years – but in case my grandson James (afore mentioned) does not live to have lawfull Heirs – It is my will that my farm goes to my grandson Michael Jordon – and if Michael Should not live to have lawful Heirs – it is my will that my grandson Thomas Jordon Heir my farm & and if he Should not live to have lawful Heirs – It is my will that my grandson Ephraim Jordon Have my farm (all sons of my son James) To my Son Ephraim I give & bequeath three dollars – To my son James I give and bequeath three dollars – To my daughter Margaret Jordon I give & bequeat one hundred dollars to be paid to hir by my grandson James afore mentioned one Year after the decease of my wife – To my daughter Elizabeth Zimmerman I give and bequeath two hundred dollars to be paid to hir by my grandson James afore mentioned in four equal annual payments the first to be paid two years after the decease of my wife and so on fifty dollars a Year until all is paid – I do hereby constitute and appoint Robert Carothers and William Carothers as the executors of this my last will and testament – In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 2nd day of April AD 1842 Signed and sealed in } James Jordon {seal} the presence of } Robert Carothers } William Cunningham } Allegheny County Be it mentioned that on the 27th day of March 1844 personally came before me P M?allise Register for the probate of Wills in and for said County Robert Carothers and William Cunningham the subscribing Witnesses to the foregoing instru ment of writing who being sworn according to law did depose and say that they saw and heard James Jordon the Testator to the fore going Will sign seal publish and declare the foregoing Will as his last Will and Testament and at the time he did so he was of sound and disposing mind to the best of their observation and belief and at his request and in his presence subscribed their names as witness thereunto, further that the aforesaid Robert Carothers did depose and say that he wrote the aforesaid Will and the introduction of the words “during her natural life” was inserted prior to signing the aforesaid Will by the Testator Given under my hand the above date T Amadeisa Register Additional Comments: James Jordon was born early August 1759 or 60 in Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware. While a resident of Morristown, Morris county, New Jersey he enlisted in the fall of 1777, served as a private in Captain Luces's Company, Colonel Israel Shreve's New Jersey Regiment, was at the Battle of Monmouth and was discharged after three years service. He was allowed pension on his application (W8225) executed November 9, 1833 while a resident of Plum Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He died March 15, 1844 in said township. Soldier married December 23, 1788 in New Castle County, Delaware, Margaret Armstrong, they lived for ten years at New London Cross Roads, Chester County, Pennsylvania and then moved to Allegheny County. They had children, three of whom were born prior to 1794; John, Ephraim and Margaret. James and Margaret Jordon are interred at the Cross Roads Cemetery, Monroeville, PA.
