All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Diana Quinones audianaq@msn.com April 20, 2005, 2:54 am Source: Chester County (gov't) Archives Written: August 10, 1839 Recorded: October 3, 1839 In the name of God, Amen I John RICHARDS of East Nantmeal township, Chester County and State of Pennsylvania Farmer being weak in body but of sound mind memory and understanding, but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in Manner and form following, to Wits FIRST: it is my Will and I do order that all my just debts and funeral Expenses be duly paid and Satisfied as soon as conveniently can be after my decease--- ITEM: I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Elizabeth property; one Milch cow with hay for her keeping over cointer??, six chairs, two pair of bedsteads with beds and bed cloths sufficient for the same, template stove and pipe, corner cupboard with the ware therin, a table,carpeting for one room. Grafs?? kettle all the iron pots and skillets which I own, three hogs and two shoats with corn and oats suffiencnt to fatten the three hogs. She is to have wheat, rye and corn off my farm sufficent to keep her family for one year after my decease and to have the house where we now live in for one year after my decease with the use of the stable garden and potatoe grain and fire wood. ITEM - And as touching all the rest, residue, and remainder of my Estate real and personal of what kind or nature soever, the same may be I give and bequeath unto my Children to be Equally divided among them Share and Share alike Excepting to my daugther Elizabeth who is to have fifty dollars more than any one of my other children. AND it is my will and I do order that my hereinafter named executor shall as soon as conventiently may be after my decease sell and dispose of my said plantation to such person or persons and for such price or prices as may be estimably gotten for the same, and for that purpose I do hereby authorize and empower my said executor to sign and execute and acknowledge all such deed or deeds of conveyances as may be requisite and necessary for the granting and assuring the same to the purchasor or purchasors thereof in fee simple, and also to make sale of my personal property as soon as convenient after my decease. And LASTLY, I nominate, constitute and appoint my neighbor George LLOYD, Esquire, to be the Executor of this my will hereby revoking all other wills, legacies and bequeaths by me heretofore made and claraing this and no other to be my last will and testatment. Book R Vol 17, page 273 On 9/14/1840, Samuel Kimes was appointed guardian of Catharine and John Richards, minors above age of 14 based on their choice, and of David Richards, below the age of 14, based on choice of the widow.
