E. B. Brown and Others Deliver Addresses Interesting Proceedings. Special Correspondence of the Derrick. ST. PETERSBURG, September 10. The reunion of the Neely family which took place today on the Isaac Neely farm, some five miles from here was a great attraction for the inhabitants of this region, especially the older settlers. At an early hour the roads leading to the old homestead were thronged with vehicles of all descriptions conveying relatives of the family and friends until by noon about eight hundred persons had assembled. The day was all that could be desired for the assembly and after paying their respects to the widow of Captain Henry Neely, now in her 97th year, refreshments were served in the orchard, on 400 feet of table s loaded until they groaned under the bountiful supply provided for the occasion. After dinner the meeting was called to order by Major Cyrus Neely, who was master of ceremonies for the day. Prayer was offered by Rev. R.S. Borland, after which a history of the family was read by Rev. Schulenber, of this place, from which we learn that Captain Henry Neely, from whom the family sprung was born in Northampton county, Pa. moved to Westmoreland county where quite young, married a Miss Burlinie moved to Venango county (now Clarion) in 1811; was commissioned Captain of Volunteers by Governor Snyder; was in the war of 1812 and 1814; died in 1865. Number of children twelve; grandchildren forty-six, the larger number of which were in attendance at the reunion of the family. The Neely family is one of the most prominent in Clarion county. Various county offices have been filled by its members, who were always noted for the fidelity with which they discharged their respective trusts. Paul Neely, on the six remaining children, was once a resident of Sugarcreek township, and will be remembered by many of the older residents of your county. Hiram Neely, now a resident of Richmond, this county is very well-known to most residents of this section, where he commands the respect of all, in fact it maybe said of the six remaining children that each are held in high esteem by all who know them. Time alone prevents us giving a personal sketch of each of the six remaining children. Addresses were delivered by Rev. J. B. Michael, Rev. Henry Hoffman and Hon. R.B. Brown, of Clarion, the exercises closing with the benediction by Rev. Leitzwell, of Clarion. ----------------------------------------------------- USGENWEB ARCHIVES NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities as long as this message remains on all copied material.
