After several weeks of failing health he died on April 23, 1902 at the age 73 years, 7 months and 18 days. At the age of 5 years he came from Germany to America and settled in Beaver Township, where he grew to manhood. His wife, who died May 25, 1899, was Elizabeth SWENTSEL. To them were born fourteen children of whom eleven are living. Frank, of Salem City; William, of Green County; Cornelius and Maria, now Mrs. J. C. Fremont BOYER, of Nickleville; Harry of Salina; John, of Myron, Indiana; Mattie, Mrs. William JACOBY, Lewis and Miss Carrie, of Kossuth; Oliver, of Woodville, Ohio, and Belle, Mrs. Frank UBER, of Kane. Only Frank and William were absent from the funeral, which was held on April 26th in the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, of which the deceased was a member for more than thirty years. Rev. S. E. Smith, of Lamartine, conducted religious services and was assisted by Rev. Cupp, an old neighbor. Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and shalt honor the face of the old man, and fear thy God.
