The PETITION of James HASSON, a native of Scotland, and now residing in the county of Clearfield, and State of Pennsylvania, respectfully sheweth: That your petitioner arrived in the United States of America, to wit, at the port of New York, in the State of N. York, on the 22nd day of August, A.D. 1864 and that in pursuance of an Act of Congress, entitled "An Act to establish an uniform rule of Naturalization, and to repeal the acts heretofore passed on that subject," made a declaration of his intentions to become a citizen of the United States conformably to the said act, before the Prothonotary of the Court of Common Pleas of Clearfield county, in the State of Penn, on the 28 day of Sept. A.D. 1871, and that he has resided within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States for five years last past, and for one year last past within the State of Pennsylvania; that he has never borne hereditary title, or been of any of the orders of nobility in the kingdom from which he came, or elsewhere. He therefore prays that he may be admitted to become a citizen of the United States, and he will ever pray, &c. James HASSON CLEARFIELD COUNTY SS: Patrick BRENNAN, citizens of the United States, being duly Sworn according to law, doth depose and say, that they are well acquainted with Jas HASSON, the above named petitioner, and that to the best of their knowledge and belief, he has resided within the limits and under jurisdiction of the United States for five years last past, and for one year last past within the State of Pennsylvania; that during the same period he has behaved himself as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same. TATE Prothy CLEARFIELD COUNTY SS: I, James HASSON, the above named petitioner, do open my solemn Oath, declare, that the contents of my petition are true; that I will support the Constitution of the United States; and that I do absolutely renounce and abjure all allegiances and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State and Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to Queen of Great Brittain of whom I was before. TATE Prothy James HASSON ************************************************ Another document states the following: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA State of Pennsylvania, County of Clearfield, as: Be it remembered, That before the Prothonotary of the Court of Common Pleas for the County of Clearfield, on the 28 day of Sept., in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy one, personally appeared James HASSON, who upon his solemn Oath, did depose and say that he is a native of Scotland, now residing in the County of Clearfield aged twenty five years, or thereabouts, and that he arrived in the U.S. under the age of eighteen years, and that it is BONA FIDE his intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any Foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to the Queen of Great Britain of whom he is now a subject, James HASSON. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and official seal at Clearfield, the 28 day of Sept. A.D. 1871. A. C.
