G, 51 PA Vol. Inf., enlisted Sept. 20, 1861, was transferred to Co. I, 5 VRC, and discharged Oct. 17, 1864. Suffered a leg injury in the battle of Roanoke Island, NC, and also developed eye problems due to untreated infection. Spent time aboard the transport "Mary Jane Kennedy" doing guard duty because he was lame. After the war he had difficulty working at his trade of carpentry because of his eyesight and the problems with his leg. He received a pension which started at $2 and was $12 at the time of his death. Wife received a pension after he died.
