Shepherd Cpl. Co. D, 7th U.S. Infantry was enlisted on the 9th day of October, 1895 to serve three yrs. and was discharged on the 16th day of November, 1898, by reason of expiration of term of service while holding the grade of corporal in Company D, 7th Regiment of Infantry; that a medal of honor was awarded to him on the 21st day of August 1899 for "Gallentry at El Caney, Cuba, July 1, 1898, assisting in the rescue of the wounded from in front of the lines and under heavy fire from the enemy."; that his name was entered and recorded on the ARMY AND NAVY MEDAL OF HONOR ROLL on the 10th day of November 1936, as authorized under the provisions of the Act of Congress approved April 27, 1916, and that he is entitled to receive the special pension granted by that Act.
