Lawrence Ball is aged 18 years. His brother Victor now in his grave, was aged 16 years. These boys lived with their parents in Hillsdale, a suburban town of Clearfield. Both were industrious boys and rated as good boys. On Saturday last Lawrence purchased a revolver, the very last thing a boy should purchase, and kept its possession a secret from his father. On Sunday morning, Victor was playing on the kitchen floor with the baby and was in a stooped posture. Close to him was Lawrence with the revolver in the inside pocket of his coat. Fearing that his father might discover it he was removing it from his pocket, with a view to hiding it under the kitchen stairs. He thought all the chambers had been emptied on Saturday evening but in this he was mistaken. In the act of pulling it from his pocket it was discharged, the contents entering the brain of his brother who died in two minutes. The body was laid to rest on Tuesday morning interment in the Catholic cemetery. The shooting was purely accidental but should serve as another warning against the handling of fire arms by children and carelessly by older persons.
