THE PROGRESS, 5 DECEMBER 2005
John A. Appleton, 55, of Curwensville died on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at the
University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian Hospital.

He was born on September 21, 1950 in Clearfield, a son of Twila (Winters)
Appleton with whom he has lived with for the past twelve years and the late
Miles C. Appleton.

Mr. Appleton was employed by the PA Department of Transportation until 1991 when
he retired due to ill health.

A 1968 graduate of Curwensville High School, he attended the United States
Military Academy at West Point and later graduated from Penn State University in
1976.

He was a lifelong member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Curwensville.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two children, Jay Miles Appleton
and Mary Elizabeth Appleton both of Curwensville, a grandchild, Braedyn McCahon,
and a brother, Miles Appleton of Berwick.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son John Shannon
Appleton, a nephew Daniel Appleton, his maternal grandparents Arthur and Violet
Winters and his paternal grandparents Hugh and Mary Elizabeth Appleton.

Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home,
Curwensville on Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Richard Steuernagle officiating.
Interment will follow in the Bloomington Cemetery, Curwensville.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on
Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM and on Tuesday from 9-11:00 AM.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Grace Lutheran Church
fellowship hall fund, 406 Pine Street Curwensville, PA 16830.
