Monday, May 15, 1944 Bald Eagle Woman is Killed By Bus Mrs. Ruth Dunlap Fatally Hurt Near Ebensburg Mrs. Ruth R. Dunlap, 48, residing near Bald Eagle was almost instantly killed on Saturday evening at 5:15 o’clock when she was struck by the Greyhound bus on which she had been a passenger a few seconds before the front and back right wheels of the buss passing over her body on the William Penn highway about one mile west of Ebensburg. Mrs. Dunlap was enroute to visit with her sister near Ebensburg when the tragedy occurred. Mrs. Dunlap got off the bus at its regular stop in front of Penn Gates near Ebensburg and apparently walked around in front of the bus last night. The bus had pulled off the highway and was partly on the highway and on the berm. Mrs. Dunlap going to cross the highway and was going west as was the bus. Toward the service station which is operated by her sister and which was about 100 yards from the scene of the accident. The bus driver told police he felt his front wheel bump and thought he had passed over a stone. On feeling the back wheel bump he glanced in the mirror of the bus and saw the woman lying on her back on the highway. Mr. Dunlap’s left foot was severed, her pelvis was crushed and she suffered internal injuries. The woman was only five feet tall and the bus operator Benjamin T. Williams, Greensburg told state police he did not see her as she walked in front of the bust and didn’t realize he had struck her until he saw her through the mirror. The bus was pulling out onto the highway an was traveling only approximately 2 miles an hour at the time of the accident he said. Coroner Patrick McDermott will hold an inquire (con’t page 3) Bald Eagle Woman is Killed By Bus (continued from Page One) Mrs. Dunlap was born in Ginter, Clearfield County, December 23, 1895, the daughter of William T. and Adeline (Higgins) Richards. She is the wife of Martin Dunlap and her husband with two children survive. They are Anna Mae and Robert both at home. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Ellsworth R. Richards, Ebenburg; Mrs. Dorothy Mayes, R.D. Ebensburg; who Mrs. Dunlap was going to visit, Charles W. Richards, Houtzdale and Carl Richards, Ginter. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Askew Funeral home in Ebensburg with the Rev. J. Leo Ferguson of the Ebensburg Christian Chruch in charge. Interment will be in Grandview cemetery Tyrone. Mrs. Dunlap was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church of Tyrone. The body may be viewed at Grandview cemetery on Tuesday afternoon from four to 4;15 o’clock just prior to burial. Additional Comments: Mother's name misspelled should be Adelaide. Mrs.Ruth R.
