Samuel J. Bloom.

Samuel J. Bloom, one of Madera’s oldest, best known and most highly esteemed 
citizens, died at his home in that place, Sunday, April 25th, 1915, at 4.30 in 
the afternoon.  His death was the result of cancer of the stomach with which he 
had been ailing for the better part of a year.
The deceased who was aged 60 years, 11 months and 14 days, was born at 
Ansonville, Clearfield county, and was the son of Lafayette and Rachel Bloom.  
He was married to Minerva Catherine Caskey, daughter of Abednego and Helen 
Caskey.
Mr. Bloom, as his life was fast ebbing away called to his bedside his wife and 
children and after looking at them said, they are all here excepting one, 
naming that one she was called when he said, he was satisfied, bidding them all 
adieu, he passed peacefully away with an angelic smile upon his face.  In the 
past several weeks of his illness he suffered intensely but he endured the pain 
which racked his whole being with greatest fortitude and courage.
Mr. Bloom was reared on the farm of his parents, but when he married he and his 
wife settled on a farm at Fruit Hill which he tilled for many years, making a 
success of the farming business.  He and his family moved to Madera nearly four 
years ago, and have resided there ever since.  He was a man that was highly 
esteemed by his friends and neighbors in that place and the surrounding 
country, he being favorably known all over the county and the sad news of his 
death was deeply felt.
Surviving are wife, one son and six girls, viz: Annie, Ford, of Tyrone; Nellie, 
(Mrs. Arthur Stoker), Madera; Rachel, Sadie, Minerva and Hazel.  Also, he 
leaves one brother, Jerd Bloom, of Ansonville, and one sister, Margaret Bloom 
of Ramey.
Funeral services were held from the Fruit Hill church on Tuesday, April 27, 
Rev. John Mitchell, pastor of the Presbyterian church officiating.  H. H. 
Sweeney, of Houtzdale had charge of the funeral.  Interment in Fruit Hill 
cemetery.
George Caskey, of Coalport and Mr. and Blair Waite, of Birmingham, Huntingdon 
county, relatives, were there, however, the latter Mrs. Bloom’s sister, and her 
husband arrived several hours too late to attend the funeral.
