Gault James V. Gault who died at Beccaria Clearfield county, on April 25, was born in Centre county, February 14, 1843. Mr. Gault had a most honorable war record. He enlisted in Company E first regiment Pennsylvania Reserve cavalry and served in that regiment from August 1, 1861 until August 8, 1865. During his service he was engaged in 29 general battles and numerous skirmishes. He was wounded in the left shoulder in the battle of Mine Run. He was captured at Brandy Station and taken to General Stewart’s headquarters. He was sent from there to General Hampton’s headquarters. Later the same day he escaped and returned to the Union lines with the sergeant’s horse, saddle, bridle and arms and hat. He was afterwards shot through the left ankle at Charles City Cross Roads. He was among the bravest and most daring men in time of battle. Mr. Gault was known as a great hunter and had different hand to hand conflicts with wounded deer and bear.
