He was born August 2, 1830 in Washington township, Lycoming county, Pa., but was brought by his parents to Clearfield county at the early age of seven and has resided in Brady township ever since. He comes of a large and influential family, his father, Henry Goodlander, coming to Clearfield county in 1837. Of the Henry Goodlander family there were thirteen children, ten of whom lived to adult age. Of this family George B. was probably the best known ad he was the proprietor of the Republican from 1865 to the date of his death in 1897. Daniel Goodlander's boyhood was uneventful. He attended school during the winter months and assisted his father at other times on his farm and at the trade of shoemaking. On September 8, 1853, he was married to Miss Leah Draucker, daughter of Isaac and Mary Draucker of Luthersburg, and the first seven years of their wedded life were spent upon a portion of his father's homestead. In 1860, having been elected a Justice of the Peace of Brady township, he bought a dwelling and store in Luthersburg from R. W. Moore and moved to that town where he has since resided. In the same year he engaged in the mercantile business which he continued to conduct until near the time of his death. Some years ago he engaged, for a time, in the hotel business but later closed the hostelry and converted it into a private dwelling. Mrs. Goodlander never held a county office but always took an active part in all local political matters and was always a mover in all public matters. He was a democrat in politics. Mr. Goodlander is survived by seven sons and daughters, namely, Mrs. J.H. Edinger, P.N. Goodlander and Walter Goodlander, of Luthersburg; Mrs. J.K. Seyler, of DuBois; Mrs. W.F. Arms, of Punxsutawney; James I. Goodlander formerly of the Republican but now residing in Pittsburg, and Mrs. A.C. Shea of Eleanora, Pa. He was buried Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Lutheran church at Luthersburg of which he was a consistent member.
