Hepfer died at the home of his son, Frank Hepfer, in Lumber City, Monday morning(2,1) at 3 o'clock from an apoplectic seizure, from which he did not rally. Some years since he was stricken. Recovering only partially from its effects, he engaged only in the lighter home duties. He had not eaten breakfast Monday, and while dressing his feet preparatory to finishing his chores, the end came, as a clap from a clear sky. Falling to the floor, unconscious, he was dead ere the doctor arrived. He was born near Fayetteville, Pa., seventy-three years ago. He was a soldier, one of Uncle Sam's volunteers, prompted to enlist by the rebel attack on Chambersburg, Pa. He is credited with 3 enlistments; viz: three months, nine months and lastly for three years "during the war." His widow, Eliza, survives him, as does also Harvey, Frank, and Benjamin, sons; and Mrs. Annie Spencer and Mrs. Sadie Sterling daughters. Also, a brother in Michigan, and a sister in Chambersburg, Pa. He will be buried on the hill at Lumber City. The suddenness of the summons makes a wondrous impression on the community, who deeply sympathize with the family in their bereavement.
