F. Irwin, at Clark street, was fatally injured while at work at the coal dock in the local New York Central railroad yards about 6:30 o'clock this morning. Mr. Irwin was working alone when injured and just how the accident occurred is not known. When discovered by fellow workmen he was lying on the coal dock alongside the track with a badly fractured skull and was removed at once to the Clearfield hosiptal by Dr. Hayes Woolridge who was called to attend him. When the accident happened the young man was engaged in unloading coal from the cars. A car of coal would be hauled up the incline to the dumping shute whereupon the work men would open the hopper or "possum belly" and drop the coal down through the chute. It is thought that young Irwin attached his wrench and loosened the bolt or bar sufficiently to allow or cause it to let go suddenly and as the load of coal rushed downward the wrench attached to the bar was torn from his hands and in its revolution struck Irwin on the head with such force as to cause a compound fracture of the skull. Irwin is a married man and resides with his wife and two children on South Fourth street. He is a native Clearfield boy and the many friends of the family sympathize deeply with them in their misfortune. Despite all that medical skill could accomplish, the young man passed away about 11:30 o'clock never having regained consciousness. The deceased was an honest, upright, industrious young man, quiet and unassuming. He was born in Clearfield about 30 years ago and had always resided here. He was well liked by all who knew him and his untimely end will be sincerely mourned. Additional Comments: His wife was Clara Isabell Gifford and his children were Bessie Naomi age 2 and William IV age 1.
