James Kephart whose death ocurred at his home at Winburne on Sunday, Feb 6, 1921 was prior to locating at Winburne 16 years ago, a resident of Philipsburg, conducting a store in the building where R. D. Bigelow now has his marble works, corner Presqueisle and Second Streets. He was a member of Centre Castle No. 179, the Philipsburg lodge of the Knights of the Mystic Chain, members of which organization attended his funeral on Thursday of last week. He also belonged to the Philipsburg Red men. The deceased was born at Houtzdale 48 years ago and since residing in Winburne has been employed as an electrical engineer for the Pennsylvania Coal and Coke Company. He was a member of the Men's Bible class of the Presbyterian church at Winburne, and had a host of friends in Winburne and vicinity as well as in Philipsburg, where he was quite well known. He was stricken with apoplexy shortly after Christmas, the stroke resulting fatally at about 1:30 o'clock on the date above mentioned. Besides his wife, who was Miss Maggie Jones of Gearhartsville, a native of Wales, to whom he was wedded at Houtzdale about 29 years ago, he is survived by these daughters, Mary, wife of Robert Park, of Detroit Michigan; Elizabeth, wife of C. R. Kuhn of Otsego, W. Va., Anna, wife of John E. Simcox, of Winburne, and Jeanette, wife of Thomas Grey, Jr of Winburne. Brothers and sisters living are Abe of Carnegie; Alton of Altoona, Mrs. J. S. Hoyt of Clearfield, Mrs Ray Graffius of Houtzdale, Mrs William Soupe of Windber, and Mrs William Minto of Bellwood.
