Lawhead, 70, well-known Clearfield businessman, died at the Altoona General Hospital at 7 p.m. Monday. Born at Hyde April 18, 1887, he was a son of the late Newton and Amanda (Stroup) Lawhead. He was married to the former Mary Dunlap Davidson. Mr. Lawhead had been in the painting business for the past 40 years. He was associated with the late David Speck, later with John Cuetara and for the past 30 years has operated his own business as a paint contractor. Before entering the painting business, Mr. Lawhead operated a grocery store in Hyde and was also Hyde postmaster. In addition to his wife, Mr. Lawhead is survived by four daughters and three sons: Mrs. William (Leona) Scott, Huntingdon; Mrs. Grant (Lois) Jay, Vero Beach, Fl.; Mrs. John (Alvera) McCartney, Ridgway; Mrs. William (Betty) Lykens, Clearfield; Clarence Lawhead, Theron Lawhead and Gordon Lawhead, all of Clearfield. Nineteen grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters also survive: Mrs. Dan D. (Mayme) Giggey, Loveland, Co; Mrs. Ben (Millie) Post, Boulder, Co; Mrs. Thurman (Carrie) Duttry, Hyde; Mrs. George (Enna) Peasley, Emporium; and Robert Lawhead, Clearfield. Interment will be in the Centre Cemetery. Additional Comments: Joseph Schrot later owned the grocery store which was located across the street from the entrance of the Airplane & Marine factory.
