She was born in Penfield on July 11, 1905, a daughter of the late Dominic and Susie DePalma DePoncean. She was married in 1923 to Angelo Petruzzi, who preceded her in death in 1931. She then married Joseph Lionetti, who also preceded her in 1974. She was a homemaker and lifelong resident of Brockway. She was affiliated with the St. Tobias Church in Brockway. She was a member of the Rosary Society, St. John of God Society, Catholic Daughters of America and the Contessa Matilda Lodge of the Sons of Italy. She is survived by a son, David A. Petruzzi of Brockway; four grandchildren; and a brother, James DePoncean of Chautauqua, N. Y. She was also preceded in death by a son, Anthony L. Petruzzi; five brothers and five sisters. LIONETTI: Mary Petruzzi, 550 Broad St., Brockway, died Dec. 19, 1998. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Sunday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Carlson Funeral Home Inc. of Brockway. A rosary will be said at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A vigil service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Tobias Church in Brockway with the Rev. Monsignor Louis Heberlein officiating. Burial will be in the St. Tobias Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Anthony L. Petruzzi Educational Memorial Trust Fund or charity of the donor's choice. Additional Comments: Mary was one of ten children born to Dominic and Susie DePalma DePoncean. She and Angelo eloped to Maryland in 1923 and had their marriage sanctioned by the church later that year. She was widowed at age 26 with two small boys. It was America's Great Depression and there was no welfare programs in those days. To provide for her children, Mary did house work for the Beadle, Hutchinson and Ralston families. She also took in laundry which was washed by hand and ironed by heating irons on a coal stove. She grew a garden to cold pack tomatoes and canned fresh fruits and made jellies and jams. The Mary Petruzzi Lionetti Catholic Leadership Scholarship has been endowed in her name in the DuBois (PA) Catholic School System.
