Carrie Jane, wife of David Marshall was born near Clearfield, Pa., Jan. 13, 1863. Her father was Joseph Woods. Her mother's maiden name was Martha Jane Macumber, one of the prominent families of Clearfield County in past years. When 12 years old, Carrie, ambitious and energetic started out for herself in the world and learned the milliner's trade. On May 10, 1881 she was married at Reynoldsville by Rev. D.C. Planette to David Marshall. They lived some months in Brady township and seven years at Rathmel and then moved to Penfield where they have since lived. Four children were born of the union. Stanley, Ralph, Edmond, deceased, Ruth and Lucien. The departed was a true wife and mother and the proper ideal of a home was realized while she was permitted to guide and guard in the earthly haven of rest. Ever since the birth of her first born, Mr. Marshall was poorly in health. A few weeks ago her condition became so serious it was decided to take her to the Williamsport Hospital. Her devoted husband accompanied her on the sad journey and the skill and constant care of this splendid institution was given to her case, but the deadly disease that had seized her could not be defeated in its purpose and on Thursday morning January 15, 1903 she painlessly and peacefully passed into the beyond. When 12 years of age she gave her heart to the Lord, and served Him humbly, bravely, faithfully ever after (unreadable line) exemplary and her testimony to her experience was ever chaste and clear. When she bade Ruth and Lucien goodbye it was with the injunction in case they saw her no more on Earth to meet her in Heaven. As Death came nearer, to her husband she told of her confident, almost cheerful hope that the tomb was but the gateway to light and life immortal. The earthly temple of clay was brought to the home on Friday and on Saturday afternoon the funeral was at the Presbyterian church at Penfield. Rev. J. R. Ebner of the Methodist church of which she was a faithful member so many years had charge assisted by Rev's. D. Caldwell and G.J. Kelley. W.L. Joyce was Director. The church was filled and the service was impressive. The interment was in Penfield cemetery. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/ File size: 2.7 Kb
