Thursday, when he was struck by a car driven by Mrs. Thurston H Smith of 810 Mill Road, Clearfield, at he was crossing the road in front of the Marshall home. Mrs. Smith told police that Mitchell appeared in the center of the road, that she saw him and expecte him to continue across. Instead, she said, he faltered and when he made a move to turn back, she guided her car to pass in front of him. Then he apparently changed his mind and stepped in front of the car, Mrs. Smith states. She was accompanied by two children. She had no chance to avoid the accident, she said. Mr. Mitchell did of head insuries within a few moments. Members of the DuBois detail Pennsylvania Motor Police, who investigated, reported that a witness verified Mrs. Smith's story. The witnesws said he believed that the accident was unavoidable. Mr. Mitchell was known to have been in the habit of walking on the highway.
